The D'Addario EJ13 is an 80/20 Bronze acoustic guitar string set in Custom Light hybrid gauge — combining lighter top strings for easy bending and reduced tension on the high strings, with standard light gauge bottom strings for full depth and projection on the low end. 80/20 Bronze is the original acoustic string alloy, introduced by John D'Addario Sr. and John D'Angelico in the 1930s, prized for its crisp, bright, projecting tone and favoured by recording engineers, traditionalists, and vintage enthusiasts. Made in the USA.

80/20 Bronze — The Original Acoustic Alloy

80/20 bronze (80% copper, 20% zinc) is the original acoustic guitar string alloy — introduced by John D'Addario Sr. and John D'Angelico in the 1930s and still the choice of players who want the brightest, most sparkling acoustic tone available. 80/20 bronze produces a crisp, bold, projecting tone with a bright top end that cuts through clearly in a mix — making it a popular choice for recording, where its clarity and definition translate well to microphone and direct recording. Favoured by traditionalists and vintage enthusiasts for its historical significance and the classic acoustic sound it produces. Note that 80/20 bronze tends to lose its brightness faster than phosphor bronze as the alloy oxidises — players who want longer string life should consider the phosphor bronze EJ26 in the same Custom Light gauge.
