Description

The Allparts GW-0832-000 is a vintage-style cloth wire kit for electric guitar rewiring and restoration — containing one length of black and one length of white 22AWG push-back cloth-covered stranded wire, each 3.5 feet long. Waxed braided cotton outer insulation. Unshielded single conductor. Suitable for internal guitar wiring between pickups, pots, switches, and output jacks.

Push-Back Cloth Wire — The Vintage-Correct Choice

Push-back cloth wire is the wiring type used in vintage American electric guitars from the 1950s and 1960s — Fender Stratocasters, Telecasters, and Gibson Les Pauls all used cloth-covered push-back wire as original equipment. The "push-back" refers to the cloth insulation's ability to be pushed back along the wire to expose the conductor for soldering, without needing to strip the insulation with a knife or wire stripper. This makes soldering faster and cleaner, and eliminates the risk of nicking the conductor during stripping. The waxed braided cotton outer insulation is period-accurate for vintage restorations and provides a flexible, heat-resistant covering that holds up well in the confined spaces of a guitar control cavity.

22AWG — Correct Gauge for Guitar Internal Wiring

22AWG (American Wire Gauge) is the standard wire gauge for internal guitar wiring — fine enough to route easily through tight spaces and solder cleanly to small pot and switch terminals, while carrying the low-level audio signal without resistance issues. Heavier gauges are unnecessarily stiff; lighter gauges are fragile and difficult to handle.
