Manufacturing
Our products are manufactured both locally and globally. We carefully select our manufacturing partners to ensure our products are high quality and a fair value.
The Allparts EP-4985-000 is a CTS 250K linear taper potentiometer with a 24-spline split shaft — suitable for use as a volume or tone control in electric guitar wiring configurations. The 250K resistance value is the standard for single-coil pickup guitars (Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazzmaster), preserving the natural warmth and top-end roll-off characteristic of single-coil pickups. Made by CTS in the USA.
250K — The Standard for Single-Coil Guitars
Potentiometer resistance value has a direct effect on the high-frequency content of your guitar's signal. A 250K pot provides a moderate load on the pickup, rolling off some high-frequency content to produce the warm, smooth tone associated with single-coil guitars. Using a 500K pot with single-coil pickups results in a brighter, sometimes harsh tone; using a 250K pot with humbuckers results in a darker, muddier tone than intended. For humbucker-equipped guitars, a 500K pot is the standard choice.
Linear Taper — Even, Predictable Response
A linear taper pot produces an even, proportional change in resistance across the full rotation — the resistance changes at a constant rate from 0 to maximum. Linear taper pots are most commonly used as blend/balance controls or in specific wiring configurations where a predictable, even sweep is required. For standard volume and tone controls, an audio (logarithmic) taper pot is more commonly used as it better matches the human ear's perception of volume. Confirm your wiring requirement before ordering — if you need an audio taper 250K pot, see the EP-4980-000 (Audio Taper).
Split Shaft — 24-Spline, Fits Push-On Knobs
The 24-spline split shaft is the standard shaft type for USA CTS pots — compatible with all standard push-on split shaft knobs including Stratocaster-style knobs, speed knobs, and bell knobs designed for USA split shaft pots. Not compatible with solid shaft or metric (import) shaft knobs without modification.
