Description

The Allparts EP-0499-000 is a copper shielding tape strip with a conductive adhesive backing — used to line guitar control cavities, pickup routes, and pickguard undersides to create a continuous Faraday cage that reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) and hum. 1" wide, 5 feet long. Made in the USA.

Why Shield Your Guitar Cavities?

Single-coil pickups and unshielded guitar electronics are susceptible to electromagnetic interference from nearby sources — lighting (especially fluorescent and LED), computer monitors, amplifier transformers, and other electrical equipment. This interference manifests as a persistent hum or buzz that changes in character as you move or rotate the guitar. Shielding the control cavity and pickup routes with conductive copper tape creates a grounded Faraday cage around the electronics, significantly reducing or eliminating this interference without affecting the guitar's tone.

Conductive Adhesive — Critical for Effective Shielding

The conductive adhesive backing is what makes this tape effective as a shielding material — it ensures electrical continuity between overlapping tape sections, so the entire shielded surface acts as a single connected ground plane. Non-conductive adhesive tape (even if the copper foil itself is conductive) will not provide continuity at overlapping joints, creating gaps in the shield. The EP-0499-000's conductive adhesive ensures a reliable, continuous ground path across the entire shielded area.

Application

Apply to the walls and floor of the control cavity, pickup routes, and the underside of the pickguard (if applicable). Overlap tape sections by at least 3–5mm to ensure continuity. Connect the shielded cavity to ground via a wire soldered to the tape and connected to the common ground point in the wiring. The 1" width is well-suited for lining cavity walls without excessive overlap or waste.
