Description

The Allparts EP-0296-000 is a 500K audio taper potentiometer with an integrated push-push DPDT switch — combining a standard volume or tone pot with a built-in switching function activated by pressing the knob down. The push-push mechanism toggles the switch each time the knob is pressed, returning to the previous state on the next press. Includes nut and dress washer. Split splined shaft. Made in the USA.

Push-Push vs Push-Pull — What's the Difference?

Both push-push and push-pull pots combine a standard potentiometer with an integrated DPDT switch, but they operate differently. A push-pull pot requires you to physically pull the knob upward to engage the switch and push it back down to disengage — the knob position (up or down) indicates the switch state. A push-push pot uses a momentary press-and-release action to toggle the switch — the knob stays at the same height regardless of switch state, and each press toggles between the two positions. Push-push is preferred by players who want a cleaner look (no visible knob height change) and a quicker, more intuitive switching action.

Common Wiring Applications

The integrated DPDT switch can be wired for a wide range of switching functions without adding extra switches or modifying the guitar's appearance, including coil-splitting (splitting a humbucker to single-coil), series/parallel switching, phase reversal, pickup on/off switching, and active/passive switching on active electronics. The switching function is completely independent of the pot's volume or tone control function.
