Description

The Allparts EP-0155-000 is a 1/4" stereo TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) output jack in an open-frame (Switchcraft 12B-style) format — designed for electric guitars and basses requiring a stereo output jack, including instruments with active electronics (battery switching), piezo pickup systems, and stereo wiring configurations. Mounts through a 3/8" diameter hole. Threaded portion: 3/8"-32 thread, 1/4" length.

Open Frame vs Barrel Jack — Two Stereo Jack Formats

Stereo TRS output jacks are available in two main physical formats, and the correct choice depends on your guitar's jack routing:

Open frame (Switchcraft 12B style) — EP-0155-000 — a flat, open-body jack that mounts through a standard 3/8" hole in the guitar body or pickguard. The jack body sits inside the cavity with only the threaded barrel protruding through the mounting hole. This is the standard format for most Stratocaster, Telecaster, and similar guitars with a flat pickguard or body-face jack mount.
Long barrel jack — EP-0152-000 — a cylindrical barrel-style jack with an extended threaded barrel, designed for side-mounted jack routing on thicker guitar bodies (Les Paul, SG, etc.). See EP-0152-000 for this format.

Stereo TRS — For Active Electronics & Battery Switching

The most common application for a stereo jack on an electric guitar is active electronics with battery switching — the ring contact completes the battery circuit when a cable is plugged in, automatically disconnecting the battery when unplugged to preserve battery life. Other applications include stereo pickup wiring and piezo/magnetic blend systems. If your guitar has active pickups or an active preamp, a stereo jack is almost certainly required.
